Lurid Update

Since the release of Chase of the Wild Goose, we have received a lot of wonderful love and support for the book, and we want to give a big thank you to everyone who purchased a copy and has helped give Gordon’s book the recognition it deserves. We would like to point out some wonderful features and reviews that the book has received. Emma Beddington’s article in the Guardian describes her visit of the Ladies’ home in Langollen, honouring it as “the perfect rendering of Romantic rural living,” or in other words, “18th century cottage core.” Her article traces the influence the Ladies have had from their day to the 21st century, and the admiration they continue to receive.

“They could have become a historical footnote, a curiosity, but something in their story remains irresistible, as Chase of the Wild Goose shows” – Emma Beddington.

Chase has also been reviewed by Norena Shopland in The Wales Art Review, where she highlights its historical value in queer studies: “Chase of the Wild Goose has an important place in LGBTQ+ literature as well as the history of sexology so it is timely that this unique book has been brought back to life by Lurid Editions.”

Min Wild in the Times Literary Supplement has demarked the Ladies’ relationship as “open, fearless and enduring,” and her words summarise the uniqueness of Chase, where “the queer, the camp and a kind of absurd uncanny all play a part.”

Lucy Scholes’ article in Prospect Magazine is a testament to the hard but nonetheless fulfilling work that goes into publishing forgotten texts. The term “archive mole” is certainly fitting for Lurid Editions, and we second her affirmation that “rediscovering a lost book is often a process of reanimating a forgotten life.”

On June 3rd, we had the pleasure of visiting Plas Newydd to celebrate Chase of The Wild Goose. It was so wonderful discussing the book on the beautiful garden grounds. Below is a photo from our Instagram page:
